It was a great experience being on a panel with Patricia Wood at the 2008 Hawaii Book and Music Festival. It’s nice to see that people in Hawaii read–hopefully it wasn’t just the Slurpees, free Starbucks, and jumpee houses that lured them there.
The keynote speaker was Michael Ondaatje, author of the English Patient, which I sort of read when I was younger and trying to read important novels. I didn’t know he was married to the author Linda Spalding (from Hawaii). Back when I first met him in 04′ as a Stegner fellow it was my impression that he was creepily available.
