Who better to turn to for book recommendations than Julia Scheers, mother of one and author of “Towelhead” by Alicia Erian and loved the snarky voice of the 13-year-old character and the energy of her writing. I like the provocative cover and subject matter (the boyfriend of the narrator’s mother enjoys shaving her pubic hair.) Even the title, a racist slur, is belligerent. This book seems risky and terrifically uncomfortable.
Can’t wait to read Scheer’s book on the history of Jonestown–that’s what she’s currently working on.
